Academics at Lighthouse Academies
At Lighthouse Academies, we approach academics a little differently than other schools. It is our mission to prepare each and every one of our scholars for college and career, and we do whatever it takes to ensure their time with us does just that. That’s why we have an extended school year and an extended school day. We set high expectations for our scholars to help them reach their full potential, and by holding one another to a higher standard, we are able to achieve excellent results.
At Lighthouse Academies, we know that it is critical to ensure that our scholars have a strong foundation in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Our program focuses on these fundamentals in order to ensure that all scholars are strong communicators and strong readers that meet or exceed grade level standards by the time they complete grade 2.
All Lighthouse schools offer additional time to address foundational math and language arts skills. At the kindergarten through grade 8 level, all schools have an extra 45 minute (or more) period embedded in the daily schedule to support scholars with the acquisition of “just right level” reading and/or math skills in accordance with their individual needs. During this time, scholars work and grow in small groups alongside peers that have similar needs. Our College Preparatory Academy scholars receive additional access to “just right level” supports in reading or math if their instructional level lags their grade level by 1.5 years or more.
We offer a rigorous academic program that provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in college. But we don’t stop there. Our scholars and families also receive personalized support from our college and career advising team who assist our scholars in navigating the college selection, application, admissions, financial aid and matriculation processes.
